For more than four decades, Mr. Fence has stood as a trusted name in New Jersey’s fencing and outdoor design industry. At the heart of it all is Dan Caporellie, who has maintained an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau by helping countless residents transform their yards into stunning havens.
Dan’s journey with fencing began in his youth, working for a local fence company. He quickly found passion in the trade, drawn to the hands-on work and satisfaction of creating something long-lasting. In 1981, he launched Mr. Fence out of his hometown of Jackson, NJ, driven by a desire to serve his beloved community. Yet, as the business expanded, Dan relocated to Freehold in 1994. This move provided more space and convenience, allowing Dan to expand Mr. Fence’s offerings tenfold. What started as a fencing company has since evolved into a full-service destination for handcrafted yard accessories and outdoor decor.
In Freehold, Dan began building meaningful partnerships that would set Mr. Fence apart. One of those relationships is with a renowned Canadian lumber mill known for producing top-quality cedar— ideal for constructing beautiful, durable fences. Otherwise, Dan sources all of his other products exclusively from trusted regional suppliers.
Additionally, Dan has cultivated a steadfast partnership with several Amish families in Pennsylvania. For over 30 years, these skilled Amish craftsmen have been supplying Mr. Fence with custom-made sheds, patio furniture, pavilions, pool houses, gazebos, and other yard enhancements. As modern challenges encroach upon traditional Amish ways of life, their relationship with Dan has only grown stronger. Today, the Amish community helps deliver and install the majority of outdoor products offered by Mr. Fence, beautifying New Jersey homes with unmatched Old World craftsmanship.
In fact, one of Mr. Fence’s most popular offerings are their Amish-built swing sets. While coated in vinyl, the main construction is wood, providing the heaviness and stability of wood, but staying maintenance-free. Beyond swing sets, Mr. Fence also specializes in handcrafted gazebos, pergolas, sheds, pavilions, and arbors— available in both traditional wood and long-lasting PVC plastic. The selection doesn’t stop there: you’ll also find dog kennels, dumpster enclosures, and other outdoor poly furniture, all handpicked and thoughtfully sourced by Dan.
If you’re curious to see the craftsmanship for yourself, stop by Mr. Fence’s showroom on 630 Route 9 South in Freehold. Open 6 days a week, the showroom allows customers to view the impressive inventory up close. Whether you speak with Dan, his family, or other knowledgeable staff members, you’ll be greeted by genuine experts who prioritize service and satisfaction.
For Dan, the joy of the job comes not only from designing beautiful spaces but also from forming lasting relationships with his customers— sometimes working across generations within the same family. Whether you’re a new customer or choosing to return to Mr. Fence to complete another project, Dan and the rest of the team are always ready to make your backyard dreams come true.
