Summer in Monmouth County is the perfect time to enjoy the outdoors with your favorite furry friend. From beautiful beaches to scenic trails and dog-friendly eateries, there are plenty of places where pets are not just allowed— they're welcomed. Here are four great spots to explore with your pet this season.

Sandy Hook is a popular national recreation area and a must-visit destination for all dog owners. While pets are currently not allowed on the ocean-facing beaches due to nesting shorebirds, leashed dogs are welcome year-round on the bay side of the peninsula, particularly near the Inlet. This area provides plenty of space for walks along the shore, giving pets the chance to feel the sand under their paws and smell the salty air. While you’re there, don’t forget to take in the breathtaking view of the New York City skyline.

Lincroft’s Thompson Park is a Monmouth County gem for dog owners looking for a mix of open space and community. The park’s designated off-leash area is separated into sections for large and small dogs, which helps ensure safe play for pups of all sizes. Outside of the fenced area, leashed dogs are welcome on the park's extensive trails and open fields, making it a great spot for a longer visit or a weekend picnic. There are also dog-friendly events hosted at Thompson Park throughout the year, including training classes and adoption fairs, adding even more reason to make the park a regular stop.

Deep Cut Gardens in Middletown offers a serene and scenic option for pet-friendly exploration. Leashed dogs are welcome to wander through the garden, which includes themed botanical areas like a rose parterre, a Japanese garden, and shaded paths. Dogs can enjoy the refreshing sights and smells, and there are plenty of benches for taking water breaks. Deep Cut Gardens’ mission is to educate the public about home gardening, so it regularly hosts gardening workshops and stunning seasonal plant sales.

For a more entertaining experience, the Wonder Bar in Asbury Park hosts “Yappy Hour,” one of the area’s most beloved dog-friendly events. Held regularly during the warmer months, this event turns the bar’s outdoor space into a mini dog park with kiddie pools, agility gear, and plenty of space to roam. It’s a fun, casual environment where dogs can run off-leash under supervision and owners can enjoy live music, drinks, and food in a fun beach-town atmosphere. Located just steps from the Asbury Park boardwalk, it’s seamless to pair your visit with a relaxing stroll along the beachfront.

Monmouth County offers a diverse range of pet-friendly destinations that cater to all kinds of interests, from beach outings and garden tours to active play and social events. These four New Jersey spots not only welcome pets, but also provide opportunities to strengthen the bond between you and your furry companion. This summer, take advantage of the beauty and hospitality that Monmouth County has to offer and create unforgettable memories with your pet by your side.
