Take a moment to envision yourself relaxing in child’s pose after giving your body a satisfying stretch in yoga class. Without a single worry on your mind, you feel perfectly blissful, and there’s no place else you’d rather be. There’s only one tiny addition that could make this moment even better: tons of adorable puppies! Believe it or not, Doggy Noses & Yoga Poses (DNYP) is an organization that makes this fantastical dream a reality.
Founded in 2017 by Debra Furstenberg, DNYP was built from a determination to raise money and bring awareness to several animal rescue organizations. Debra knew that if she wanted to draw attention to her project, she had to do something ambitious and unheard of. Knowing that practically no one can resist the cuteness of a charming canine, the concept of a yoga class amongst free-roaming dogs was born. It might sound a little outlandish, but you can’t know the joy of bending yourself into downward-facing dog right beside an actual dog until you give it a try!
Each class hosted by DNYP is structured as 45 minutes of mixed-level yoga guided by an instructor, followed by an unforgettable 15 minutes of snuggle time with the pups. A portion of all ticket sales go directly to local animal shelters, and the donations add up surprisingly fast, with the company having raised over $250,000 for rescues and shelters since their initial launch! After the class is over, if participants find that they have fallen in love with any of the dogs that they bonded with, they have the opportunity to apply to adopt their newfound furry friend.
DNYP hits gyms all across the country, having held one-time classes in states as far as Florida and Colorado. They make it a goal to support smaller-scale gyms and studios if they can. Amongst the dozen or so states that DNYP has visited, New Jersey can be considered their home base, as they started off in Belmar for their very first class. Now, DNYP is set to return to the area on March 9th at Holmdel’s Fitness Factory, and it’s an event you won’t want to miss.
For this particular class, ticket sales will go towards O.S.C.A.R. (One Step Closer Animal Rescue) based in Sparta, New Jersey. O.S.C.A.R. is a non-profit animal rescue organization that saves the lives of cats and dogs every day through an adoption service, as well as organizing animals to be fostered in trusted homes. They partner with charitable groups such as DNYP often in order to fundraise towards protecting precious pet lives.
If you choose to participate in the Holmdel yoga class on March 9th, you will make a true difference for your body, your community, and the lovable dogs that will keep you moving. Find out more information about the class on the company’s website, DNYPusa.com, and reach out to see how you can lend a helping paw.
